The making of a trailblazer

Since its inception in 1894, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has always been a school that has adapted to meet the changing needs of the New England community. MCLA Athletics wanted to update its mark to a more recognizable image to better represent its students on the court and in the field. The mountain lion was chosen as the ‘trailblazer’ of the Berkshire hills to replace their previous mascot comprised of a simple mountain graphic. Under the direction of creative director and alumnus, John D. Broderick, Neiner Creative was given the privilege of developing the mascot.
